Monica's husband, a pagan, led a scandalous life and influenced their son to do the same. Monica herself struggled with alcoholism. However, after years of her patient prayer and example, both men amended their ways and converted to Christianity. She had the grace of seeing her brilliant son eventually become a holy bishop: Saint Augustine. Monica is a model of patience and prayer for those worried about their loved ones.
