This book was inspired by numerous incidents throughout the Old Testament when God encourages the children of Israel to use stones to mark places where God moves in power and faithfulness. These stones are always used as a tool to help God's people remember the goodness and faithfulness of God - so that the memorial to His works was always before them (see Genesis 28:10-22, Joshua 4, 1 Samuel 7:7-12, and Exodus 13:3-6).
